What makes music, music?
Just as you need certain ingredients to make your favorite food, so you need certain ingredients to create a piece of music. They are the musical concepts students will experience and study during their semester in music class. Those ingredients include:
1. the elements of music:
a. rhythm
b. melody
c. harmony
d. tone color
e. texture
f. form
2. families of musical instruments:
a. strings
b. woodwinds
c. brass
d. percussion
e. keyboard.
3. music history and culture
a. baroque
b. classical
c. romantic
d. contemporary
e. pop music in the 20thcentury
Students will connect with these concepts, one by one, as they sing the songs, listen to the recorded pieces, watch related videos, play the instrumental parts, and join in movement and performance routines.
Silver Burdett’s Music Connection will be the class text.
Our work will be done from a notebook of handouts and worksheets.
Students will be graded on written activities, announced quizzes and tests, listening activities, and participation in individual and group performances.
