Music Appreciation
This elective course is offered to those students interested in learning about music. Skills in music listening will be developed as students study the music from an historical, cultural, and stylistic perspective.
Unit One: Music!…To Tell Us Who We Are
Unit Two: Music!…To Invite Us to Move
Unit Three: Music!…To Let Us Perform
Unit Four: Music!…To Enhance Expression
Unit Five: Music!…To Understand Life’s Meaning
Unit Six: Music!…To Let Us Create
Unit Seven: Music!…To Tell the Story of Our Lives
Unit Eight: Music!…To Characterize the Age
Unit Nine: Music!…To Share Our Humanity
We will also take time to read and create music of our own on available instruments, such as the Orff xylophones, percussion instruments, keyboards and piano, tone chimes, and guitar.
Grades are based on accumulated points for written work, individual and group activity participation, and tests given after each unit.
